Improvement of energy infrastructure in the Oriental region (APIELO)

Support to regional governance in the Oriental region (Morocco) for the integration of renewable energy and energy efficiency considerations into its strategic planning.

Short project description

The project aims to support the Oriental region in developing an integrated strategic vision of energy and climate planning through the systematic integration of energy considerations into territorial planning, public procurement and the main sectors in the region.

The project supports the local implementation of this strategy by supporting three pilot cities, Oujda, Berkane and Jerada in the development of energy and climate action plans, and in the design and implementation of projects.

Services provided

> Definition of a governance structure in charge of the design and monitoring of the regional energy policy; capacity building of the actors involved

> Facilitation of the formulation of a common strategic vision shared by all regional actors for the promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy

> Support for the development of energy action plans in the three pilot municipalities

> Support for the prioritisation of projects; support for the structuring of projects and the identification of technical expertise and resource needs

> Establishment of energy teams and capacity building
